Description

Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks are crisp on the outside, buttery and loaded with gooey mozzarella and parmesan cheese. These irresistible breadsticks are flavored with a savory garlic butter blend, sprinkled with aromatic Italian herbs, and baked to golden perfection. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish, they come together quickly and use simple ingredients for a deliciously comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 pound Pizza Dough or Bread Dough, room temperature

Garlic Butter Mixture

  • 3 tablespoons Butter, melted (or olive oil for lighter option)
  • 23 cloves Garlic, minced (or 1 tsp garlic powder)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano or Italian Seasoning
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black Pepper, to taste

Cheese

  • 1 to cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • ¼ cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)

Garnish

  • Fresh Parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep the Dough: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up. Let the store-bought dough rest at room temperature for 15-20 minutes to become more pliable. On a lightly floured surface, roll or stretch the dough into a rectangular shape about ¼ to ½ inch thick. Transfer the dough onto a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet if not using a pizza stone.
  2. Make the Garlic Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of melted butter with minced garlic (or garlic powder), dried oregano or Italian seasoning, a pinch of salt, and black pepper to taste. Use a pastry brush to evenly coat the surface of the dough with this flavorful garlic butter mixture.
  3. Add the Cheese: Evenly sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the buttered dough. If using parmesan, sprinkle it next, focusing on the edges and any gaps to ensure every bite is cheesy. Optionally, dust the top with extra oregano or a pinch of red pepper flakes for extra flavor and heat.
  4. Bake to Golden Perfection: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven (or slide the dough onto the pizza stone). Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Check the underside of the breadsticks to make sure they are lightly browned but not overbaked to keep the inside tender.
  5. Slice and Serve: Remove the breadsticks from the oven and let them rest for 1–2 minutes. Slice into approximately 1-inch wide sticks using a pizza cutter or sharp knife. Drizzle any leftover garlic butter on top if desired, and garnish with fresh chopped parsley or basil for a fresh pop of color. Serve warm with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or aioli for dipping.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, substitute olive oil for the butter in the garlic butter mixture.
  • Use garlic powder if fresh garlic is not available, but fresh minced garlic adds better flavor.
  • Parmesan cheese is optional but adds a delicious salty, nutty note.
  • For crispier breadsticks, use a pizza stone to bake if available.
  • Store leftover breadsticks in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best texture.
  • Feel free to add extra herbs like basil or red pepper flakes for additional flavor.
