  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These Apple Cider Pork Chops are a delicious and comforting dish featuring tender, thick-cut pork loin chops cooked in a creamy apple cider sauce with hints of cinnamon, garlic, and fresh herbs. Perfect for an easy weeknight dinner, the pork chops are seared to juicy perfection and simmered with sliced Honeycrisp apples, rosemary, and thyme to infuse delightful fall flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Pork Chops and Seasoning

  • 4 thick-cut boneless pork loin chops
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Sauce Ingredients

  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • ¼ cup apple cider (or apple juice)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream (room temperature)

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 Honeycrisp apple (sliced thin)
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme

Instructions

  1. Season the Pork Chops. Sprinkle the pork chops evenly with Kosher salt and black pepper on both sides to prepare them for cooking and enhance their natural flavor.
  2. Heat the Oil and Sear the Pork. Warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the pork chops to the skillet.
  3. Cook the Pork Chops. Sear each side of the pork chops for 7 to 9 minutes until they develop a golden-brown crust and reach an internal temperature of 145°F, ensuring they are juicy and fully cooked.
  4. Rest the Pork Chops. Remove the pork chops from the skillet and place them on a plate to rest while you prepare the sauce. This helps retain the juices within the meat.
  5. Deglaze the Skillet. Pour the chicken broth and apple cider into the hot skillet to loosen all the browned bits stuck to the bottom. Cook over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes to reduce slightly and intensify flavors.
  6. Add Seasonings and Mustard. Stir in garlic powder, Italian seasoning, cinnamon, and Dijon mustard to the skillet, combining all the flavor components evenly.
  7. Create the Cream Sauce. Pour in the room-temperature heavy cream and whisk the mixture until smooth. Continue cooking for 4 to 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  8. Return Pork and Add Apples and Herbs. Place the pork chops back into the skillet along with the thinly sliced Honeycrisp apples, fresh rosemary sprigs, and fresh thyme sprigs, distributing them evenly.
  9. Simmer Everything Together. Spoon the creamy sauce over the pork chops and let the skillet simmer for 2 minutes so the flavors meld and the apples soften slightly.
  10. Serve Warm. Transfer the pork chops with sauce, apples, and herbs to plates and serve immediately for a comforting and flavorful meal.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure pork chops reach the safe internal temperature of 145°F for juicy and safe eating.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, cook it a few minutes longer to reduce further.
  • Substitute apple cider with apple juice if desired for a slightly different sweetness.
  • Ensure heavy cream is at room temperature before adding to the hot pan to prevent the sauce from curdling.
  • Fresh herbs add aroma and freshness, but dried herbs can be used if necessary, adjusted to half the amount.
  • Resting pork chops after cooking helps keep them juicy.
