Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground chicken
- 1/2 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp pepper (adjust to taste)
Other
- 6 raw flour tortillas
- Oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dumpling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground chicken, finely chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated to create the filling.
- Fill the Tortillas: Lay out one raw flour tortilla at a time. Place a couple of tablespoons of the meat filling on one half of the tortilla, spreading it out into a thin layer but leaving margins on the edges for sealing.
- Seal the Dumplings: Fold the tortilla over to cover the filling, creating a half-moon shape. Press the edges together and use the tines of a fork to crimp and seal the dumpling securely, preventing the filling from leaking.
- Preheat Oil: Heat a generous amount of oil in a skillet over medium-low heat until hot but not smoking, suitable for shallow frying.
- Fry Chebureki: Carefully place one or two stuffed dumplings in the hot oil, depending on skillet size. Fry each side until golden brown and crispy, approximately 3-4 minutes per side, ensuring the filling is cooked through.
- Drain Excess Oil: Remove the fried chebureki from the skillet and place them on paper towels to absorb excess grease and keep them crisp.
- Serve: Enjoy the chebureki hot immediately while the filling is juicy and flavorful.
Notes
- Adjust salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
- You can substitute tortillas with homemade thin dough wrappers for a more traditional approach.
- Ensure the oil is at medium-low heat to avoid burning the tortillas while ensuring the filling cooks completely.
- Serve with sour cream or your favorite dipping sauce for added flavor.
- Leftovers can be reheated in a skillet to maintain crispness but are best enjoyed fresh.
