Chile Mango Mexican Candy Shots Recipe

  • Author: anna
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These Chile Mango Mexican Candy Shots combine the tropical sweetness of mango and mango-flavored orange juice with a spicy, tangy chile-lime sugar rim and chamoy drizzle for a refreshing, vibrant tequila shot experience. Perfect as a fun and flavorful party starter or a unique aperitif.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Tajín-Sugar Rim

  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (coarse, such as turbinado or demerara)
  • 2 teaspoons chile-lime seasoning (such as Tajín Clásico Seasoning)
  • 1 wedge lime (or lime juice)

For the Shots

  • 4 ounces mango (frozen chunks, about 1 cup)
  • 2 ounces mango-flavored orange juice (such as Simply Orange Juice with Mango)
  • 2 ounces tequila (silver, such as Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila)
  • ½ ounce agave nectar (such as Tres Agaves Organic Agave Nectar)
  • 3 tablespoons chamoy (such as Tajín Chamoy Mild Sauce)
  • Mango wedges (sweetened and dried) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Tajín-Sugar Rim: On a shallow plate, mix together the coarse granulated sugar and chile-lime seasoning to create the rim mixture.
  2. Prepare the Glass Rim: Dip the rim of each shot glass into lime juice or swipe a wedge of lime around the rim to moisten it. Then immediately dip the dampened rim into the tajín-sugar mixture, ensuring the entire rim is evenly coated.
  3. Blend the Mango Shot Mixture: In a blender or using a handheld immersion blender, combine the frozen mango chunks, mango-flavored orange juice, silver tequila, and agave nectar. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and homogeneous.
  4. Add Chamoy and Fill the Glasses: Drizzle approximately 2 teaspoons of chamoy sauce along the inside of each shot glass. Quickly fill each glass with the blended mango mixture to preserve the visual effect of the chamoy swirl.
  5. Garnish: Optionally, rub a lime wedge on a piece of sweetened, dried mango wedge and dip it into chile-lime seasoning. Place this garnished mango wedge on top of the shot glass to serve as a fun, flavorful garnish.

Notes

  • Use coarse granulated sugar like turbinado or demerara for better texture and to help the chile-lime mixture adhere to the rim.
  • The mango should be frozen to achieve a chilled, slushy-like consistency.
  • The chamoy adds a sweet, tart, and slightly spicy flavor that complements the mango and tequila perfectly.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit tequila and replace it with extra mango-flavored orange juice or sparkling water.
  • Adjust the amount of chile-lime seasoning to your preferred spice level.
