Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 36 Oreo cookies, crushed
- 8 oz package of full-fat brick cream cheese, softened
- 10 oz good quality chocolate (semi-sweet or dark), for coating
- 1/2 tsp cooking oil (optional, to thin chocolate if needed)
- Christmas sprinkles or decorations of your choice
Instructions
- Crush Oreos: Place the Oreo cookies in a large Ziploc bag and crush into coarse crumbs using a rolling pin, or pulse them in a food processor until you have coarse crumbs.
- Mix with cream cheese: Add the crushed Oreos to a large mixing bowl along with the softened cream cheese. Stir and mix thoroughly until fully combined into a uniform mixture.
- Form balls: Scoop out the mixture and roll it into 1-inch diameter balls. Arrange the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Chill the balls: Refrigerate the Oreo balls for at least 1 hour, or place them in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up. This helps ensure they hold their shape during dipping.
- Melt chocolate: Melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stovetop or in the microwave by heating in 20-second bursts, stirring frequently until smooth. Allow the chocolate to cool slightly for 5 minutes.
- Dip balls in chocolate: Using a fork or candy dipping tool, dip each chilled Oreo ball into the melted chocolate, coating it completely. Gently tap off excess chocolate.
- Add sprinkles: While the chocolate coating is still wet, sprinkle the Oreo balls with Christmas sprinkles or your preferred decorations.
- Set the chocolate: Place the dipped Oreo balls back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate or freeze for 10-15 minutes until the chocolate is fully set.
Notes
- Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature for a smoother blend with the crushed Oreos.
- Avoid using chocolate chips for coating as they contain stabilizers that prevent smooth melting.
- If the melted chocolate is too thick for dipping, add 1/2 tsp of cooking oil to thin it.
- If the Oreo balls lose their shape while dipping, return them to the refrigerator or freezer to firm up again.
- For best results, prepare the balls and refrigerate overnight before dipping them the next day.
