Ingredients
Scale
For the Dumpling Filling:
- 1 cup cooked protein (such as shrimp, chicken, or tofu, finely chopped)
- 1 cup shredded vegetables (such as carrots, cabbage, or bell peppers)
- 2 green onions (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
For the Dumplings:
- 12–15 rice paper wrappers
- Oil for frying (such as vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked protein, shredded vegetables, chopped green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are evenly incorporated to create a flavorful filling.
- Prepare the Rice Paper Wrappers: Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip one rice paper wrapper into the water for 10-15 seconds until it becomes soft and pliable. Carefully remove it and lay it flat on a clean surface.
- Add Filling and Fold Dumplings: Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the prepared filling in the center of the softened wrapper. Fold the sides over the filling and roll it up tightly from bottom to top, similar to rolling a burrito. Repeat this process for all wrappers and filling.
- Heat Oil: Pour about 1/4 inch of oil into a large skillet or frying pan and heat it over medium heat until hot and shimmering, suitable for shallow frying.
- Fry Dumplings: Carefully add a few dumplings to the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding. Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes until the wrappers turn golden brown and crisp. Flip gently to cook evenly on both sides.
- Drain Dumplings: Remove the fried dumplings and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil and maintain their crispiness.
- Serve: Serve the crispy rice paper dumplings warm accompanied by dipping sauces such as soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, or peanut sauce. Enjoy the delicious crunch and savory filling.
Notes
- Be careful not to soak the rice paper for too long or it may become too sticky and difficult to roll.
- You can customize the filling with your favorite proteins and vegetables based on preference or dietary requirements.
- Maintain medium heat while frying to ensure the dumplings cook evenly and become crispy without burning.
- Serve immediately after frying for the best texture and flavor.
