Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Coating
- 1 1/2 lbs round steak, cut into 1/2 inch strips
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Vegetables and Aromatics
- 1 small onion, diced
- 4–5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1 red pepper, diced
Liquids and Seasonings
- 1 (16 oz) can Italian style tomatoes
- 1 tbsp beef bouillon
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp steak seasoning
- 1 tbsp steak sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak: Toss the round steak strips with salt, pepper, and flour until evenly coated. This helps to tenderize the meat and thicken the sauce during cooking.
- Mix Vegetables and Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine diced onion, garlic cloves, green and red peppers, Italian style tomatoes, beef bouillon, Worcestershire sauce, steak seasoning, and steak sauce. Mix well.
- Bag the Ingredients: Add the coated steak strips to a gallon-sized freezer bag. Pour the mixed vegetable and sauce mixture into the bag over the steak. Seal the bag securely, removing excess air, and place in the freezer.
- Freezing and Thawing: When ready to cook, thaw the freezer bag in the refrigerator overnight to allow for even cooking.
- Cook the Pepper Steak: Empty the thawed contents into the crock-pot. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours until the steak is tender and the flavors have melded beautifully.
- Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked, stir gently and serve hot over rice, noodles, or your favorite side dish for a complete meal.
Notes
- For best texture, do not skip thawing the freezer bag overnight before cooking.
- You can substitute round steak with sirloin or flank steak strips for variation.
- Adjust seasoning according to your taste preferences, especially if using low-sodium bouillon.
- Adding a splash of soy sauce can enhance the umami flavor if desired.
- This meal is great for batch cooking and can be doubled to feed a larger family.
