Cookies:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Frosting:
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon maple extract
- Tiny pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon milk
Decoration:
- sparkling sugar for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients. Set aside.
- Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add in maple syrup, egg yolks, and vanilla; mix until smooth. Gradually add in the dry ingredients.
- Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven and prepare baking sheets. Portion out dough onto sheets.
- Bake until golden and set. Cool on a wire rack.
- Prepare frosting. Beat ingredients until smooth and creamy.
- Frost cookies and top with sugar.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a touch of maple extract to the cookie dough.
- Make sure the cookies are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
