  • 1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Frosting:

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon maple extract
  • Tiny pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Decoration:

  • sparkling sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients. Set aside.
  2. Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add in maple syrup, egg yolks, and vanilla; mix until smooth. Gradually add in the dry ingredients.
  3. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheets. Portion out dough onto sheets.
  5. Bake until golden and set. Cool on a wire rack.
  6. Prepare frosting. Beat ingredients until smooth and creamy.
  7. Frost cookies and top with sugar.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a touch of maple extract to the cookie dough.
  • Make sure the cookies are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
