Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 4 Lemons, peeled
- 200 g Ginger, cut into ½ inch chunks (peeling optional)
- 200 g Turmeric, cut into ½ inch chunks (peeling optional)
- ¼ tsp Black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Wash and rinse the ginger, turmeric, and lemons thoroughly using a vegetable brush to remove any dirt or impurities.
- Cut Ingredients: Cut the ginger and turmeric into ½ inch chunks without necessarily peeling them. Peel the lemons completely and cut them into halves.
- Juicing Method: Transfer the lemon halves, ginger, and turmeric chunks to a juicer (such as the Nama Juicer). Juice all the ingredients until smooth and combined.
- Add Black Pepper: Pour the freshly extracted juice into a container and add ¼ teaspoon of black pepper. Stir gently to combine, as the black pepper enhances the absorption of turmeric’s beneficial compounds.
- Alternative Blending Method: If you do not have a juicer, place the lemons, ginger, and turmeric into a blender. Add about 2 cups of water and blend until smooth to create a thick mixture.
- Strain the Juice: Pour the blended mixture through a cheesecloth or a fine mesh cloth and squeeze thoroughly to extract the juice from the pulp. Note that turmeric may stain the cloth yellow even after washing.
- Add Black Pepper to Blended Juice: After straining, add ¼ teaspoon of black pepper to the juice and stir well.
- Serving: Serve the lemon ginger turmeric shot as is or pour a shot-sized amount into a glass and dilute with warm water and honey to taste for a soothing morning beverage.
- Storage: Store any leftover juice in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
Notes
- Peeling ginger and turmeric is optional; however, make sure to wash them well if you decide to keep the peel.
- Turmeric can stain surfaces and cloths yellow, so handle with care during preparation.
- Adding black pepper increases the absorption of curcumin, the active compound in turmeric.
- The juice can be consumed plain or diluted with warm water and honey for added sweetness and comfort.
- Store juice in airtight containers and consume within 3 days for best flavor and potency.
