Description

A vibrant and flavorful Thanksgiving side dish featuring tender turkey strips, sweet pears, and fresh peas, enhanced with Dijon mustard and lemon for a delightful balance of savory and bright flavors. Perfect for adding a fresh twist to your holiday meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Turkey

  • ½ pound fresh turkey strips

Vegetables and Fruits

  • 3 medium shallots, sliced
  • 16 ounces frozen peas (or fresh peas)
  • 1 pear, peeled, sliced, and diced
  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested
  • ½ cup fresh parsley, chopped

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (adjust to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Begin by peeling, slicing, and dicing the pear. Toss the pear pieces with lemon juice in a small bowl to prevent browning and set aside.
  2. Cook Turkey Strips: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the fresh turkey strips and cook them until golden brown on all sides. Use a slotted spoon to remove the cooked turkey from the skillet and drain any excess fat.
  3. Sauté Shallots: In the same skillet, add the sliced shallots and cook for about one minute, stirring occasionally, until they soften slightly.
  4. Add Dijon Mustard: Stir the Dijon mustard into the shallots in the skillet, allowing the flavors to meld over the heat.
  5. Combine Peas and Pears: Add the frozen peas and the diced pears to the skillet. Stir gently and cook for approximately five minutes until everything is warmed through and the peas are tender.
  6. Mix in Turkey and Parsley: Remove the skillet from the heat. Add half of the cooked turkey strips, chopped parsley, and freshly ground black pepper to the mixture. Stir to combine.
  7. Serve and Garnish: Transfer the pea and pear mixture to a serving bowl. Top with the remaining turkey strips and sprinkle lemon zest over the top as garnish. Serve warm to enjoy.

Notes

  • Fresh peas can be used instead of frozen peas for a sweeter, more vibrant flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of Dijon mustard based on your preference for tanginess.
  • Using fresh turkey strips ensures a better texture and flavor than pre-cooked or frozen turkey.
  • Lemon zest garnish adds a fresh and bright aroma to the dish.
  • To make this dish gluten-free, ensure the Dijon mustard used is gluten-free certified.
