Description

A quick and easy recipe for Korean Egg Rice (Gyeran Bap), perfect for a delicious and satisfying meal.


Ingredients

Rice:

  • 1 1/2 cups cooked short grain rice (or cooked jasmine rice)

Egg:

  • 1 egg

Seasonings:

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil (toasted)
  • 1 tbsp regular soy sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (toasted)
  • 1 tbsp green onion (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp vegetable oil (or any neutral oil)

Optional Add-ins:

  • kimchi, canned tuna, roasted seaweed flakes, avocado, sauteed carrots/spinach/zucchini, or more protein

Instructions

  1. Mix Rice: Combine hot cooked rice with butter until well mixed. Transfer to a large bowl.
  2. Prepare Egg: Fry the egg in vegetable oil to your desired doneness.
  3. Assemble Dish: Place the fried egg on top of the rice. Garnish with sesame seeds, sesame oil, green onions, and soy sauce.
  4. Combine: Break up the egg and mix everything together thoroughly. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • If using leftover rice, microwave covered for 2-3 minutes until hot. For freshly cooked rice, refer to cooking instructions.
