  • Author: anna
  • Total Time: 15 minutes plus at least 3 hours chilling time
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

This Bacon Ranch Cheese Ball is a crowd-pleasing appetizer that combines creamy sharp cheddar and cream cheese with smoky bacon, tangy ranch seasoning, fresh green onions, and crunchy pecans. Perfect for parties, it’s easy to prepare ahead and pairs wonderfully with crackers, pretzels, or crostini.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Ball Base

  • 2 (8 ounce) boxes cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 (1 ounce) package ranch seasoning or ranch dressing mix
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Toppings

  • 8 slices crispy cooked bacon, coarsely chopped (reserve half for coating)
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped green onions (reserve half for coating)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Mixture: Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or a hand mixer on medium speed, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy without lumps. Add the grated sharp cheddar, sour cream, Worcestershire Sauce, ranch seasoning, dried parsley, and garlic powder. Stir until all ingredients are combined, then mix in half of the reserved chopped bacon and half of the chopped green onions.
  2. Shape and Chill the Cheese Ball: Spoon the cheese mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap. Bring the sides of the plastic wrap up and over the mixture, shaping it into a ball by gently squeezing and rotating the wrap. Refrigerate the formed cheese ball for at least several hours, preferably overnight, to firm up and allow flavors to meld.
  3. Coat the Cheese Ball: On a shallow plate, evenly spread the reserved bacon, reserved green onions, and chopped pecans. Remove the cheese ball from the refrigerator and unwrap it carefully. Roll the cheese ball in the topping mixture to coat the outside evenly.
  4. Serve: Place the coated cheese ball on a serving platter. Serve immediately with an assortment of pretzels, crackers, or crostini.

Notes

  • Store the bacon and green onions reserved for topping separately in the refrigerator; pecans can be kept at room temperature.
  • Don’t stress about getting a perfectly shaped ball; you can adjust it after chilling.
  • For best flavor and texture, refrigerate the cheese ball at least 24 hours before serving. If short on time, refrigerate for several hours by slightly under-softening the cream cheese and reducing sour cream amount.
  • Roll the cheese ball in the toppings no more than 20 minutes before serving to keep it fresh.
  • If you plan to store for several days, wait to cook and chop bacon, green onions, and pecans until closer to serving.
