Ingredients
Scale
Ground Beef Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
Sandwich Assembly
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 slices sourdough or white bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the ground beef: Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef, breaking it up as it browns until fully cooked and no longer pink.
- Sauté onions and garlic: Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onions become soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Season and add liquids: Season the beef mixture with salt and black pepper to taste, then stir in the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth thoroughly.
- Simmer the mixture: Continue cooking the mixture on medium heat until most of the liquid is absorbed and the mixture remains moist but not watery, about 5-7 minutes.
- Prepare the bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread evenly. Preheat a clean skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Assemble the sandwich: Place two slices of bread butter-side down onto the skillet. Layer cheddar cheese evenly on top, followed by the beef mixture, then mozzarella cheese. Top with the remaining slices of bread, butter-side up.
- Grill the sandwich: Cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is fully melted.
- Serve: Remove sandwiches from the skillet, slice in half, garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
- You can substitute sourdough or white bread with whole wheat or multigrain for a healthier option.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or chili flakes to the beef mixture.
- Make sure the skillet is not too hot to avoid burning the bread before the cheese melts.
- Leftover sandwiches can be wrapped and refrigerated for up to 2 days; reheat in a skillet or toaster oven to maintain crispiness.
- Optional fresh parsley adds a fresh herbal note but can be omitted if unavailable.
