Ingredients

  • 2 oranges
  • 3 lemons
  • ½ pound fresh ginger
  • 1 medium fresh turmeric
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • ½ cup coconut water (or filtered water)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Peel the oranges and lemons. Wash and chop the ginger and turmeric into small pieces.
  2. Step 2: Place all the ingredients in a blender, then blend for about 20 to 30 seconds until smooth.
  3. Step 3: Strain the juice through a fine-mesh strainer, nut milk bag, or cheesecloth into a large measuring cup. Use a spoon to press the pulp or squeeze the bag to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the pulp.
  4. Step 4: Pour the ginger shots into small glass bottles. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 4 days.

Tips & Variations

  • Add a little honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter shot.
  • Use filtered water if coconut water is not available; it acts as a neutral base.
  • For an extra zing, increase the cayenne pepper slightly, but start with a small pinch if you’re sensitive to spice.
  • Fresh turmeric can stain surfaces and clothes—handle with care.

Storage

Store the shots in airtight glass bottles or jars in the refrigerator. They stay fresh for up to 4 days. Before serving, give the bottle a gentle shake as the ingredients may settle. These shots are best enjoyed chilled and should be consumed within the recommended time for optimal freshness and nutrient retention.

How to Serve

The image shows several glass containers of bright yellow liquid arranged on a wooden board over a white marbled surface. In the front center, there is a small round glass bottle with a cork stopper filled with the yellow liquid. To the left, two small glass jars with red and white checkered lids are stacked and filled with the same liquid. Behind the small bottle, there are two additional bottles of different shapes and sizes also filled with the bright yellow liquid. To the right, a clear glass filled with the yellow liquid is visible. Fresh slices of orange, ginger root, and turmeric pieces are placed around the containers, adding a natural and fresh look. The background is a soft light color with a smooth texture. Photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

FAQs

Can I use powdered turmeric instead of fresh?

Fresh turmeric provides a brighter flavor and more potent nutrients, but if needed, you can substitute with about 1 teaspoon of powdered turmeric. Keep in mind the texture and taste will differ slightly.

Do I need to peel the ginger and turmeric?

Peeling is recommended to avoid any bitterness and to ensure a smooth texture in the juice, but if your produce is organic and well-washed, you can leave the skins on for added fiber and nutrients.
