  • Author: anna
  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 servings 1x

Description

This Moist Marble Cake is a classic homemade dessert featuring soft, tender vanilla and chocolate swirls baked into a beautifully marbled, buttery cake. Perfect for birthdays, afternoon tea, or any occasion, it offers a rich yet balanced flavor with a moist crumb and optional chocolate glaze finish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp hot milk or hot water

Optional Chocolate Glaze

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23 cm) loaf pan or Bundt pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes, to incorporate air for a tender crumb.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to fully combine. Stir in the vanilla extract for flavor.
  5. Combine dry ingredients and milk: Gradually add the dry flour mixture alternately with whole milk, starting and ending with the dry mixture. Mix gently until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  6. Divide batter: Evenly divide the batter into two separate bowls.
  7. Prepare chocolate batter: In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder with the hot milk or hot water until smooth. Stir this mixture into one half of the batter to create the chocolate portion.
  8. Layer batters in pan: Spoon alternating dollops of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared pan, creating layers of each.
  9. Create marble effect: Use a butter knife or skewer to gently swirl the batters together in the pan to create the characteristic marbled pattern without overmixing.
  10. Bake: Bake the cake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating the cake is fully cooked.
  11. Cool cake: Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer it onto a wire rack and cool completely before glazing or serving.
  12. Make chocolate glaze (optional): Heat the heavy cream until hot but not boiling. Pour it over the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter in a bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake for added richness.

Notes

  • Use room-temperature ingredients for best mixing and cake texture.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the cake tender and light.
  • Check the cake at 50 minutes and extend baking time if necessary.
  • Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze individual slices or the whole cake for up to 2 months, thaw at room temperature before serving.
  • Customize with chocolate chips, nuts, or fresh berries for extra flavor and texture.
  • Use loaf or Bundt pan – both work well to create even baking and great presentation.
