Ingredients

  • 24 oz fresh green beans, ends trimmed
  • 3 Tbsp salted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Add the trimmed green beans to a large frying pan and pour in about 1 inch of water. Bring the water to a boil and cook the beans until they are crisp-tender and bright green, about 5 minutes. Drain the water and transfer the beans to a strainer.
  2. Step 2: Place the frying pan back on medium heat and add the salted butter and minced garlic. Cook until the butter is fully melted and the garlic is fragrant.
  3. Step 3: Return the drained green beans to the pan. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper, then toss everything together. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until some pieces develop a slight crispness. Serve immediately.

Tips & Variations

  • For extra flavor, add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes before serving.
  • Substitute unsalted butter and adjust the salt to taste for better control over seasoning.
  • Try adding toasted almonds or pine nuts for a crunchy texture.

Storage

Store leftover sautéed green beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat to maintain their texture, or microwave briefly until warmed through.

FAQs

Can I use frozen green beans for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen green beans. Thaw and drain them well before cooking, and adjust the cooking time slightly as frozen beans may cook faster.

How do I prevent the garlic from burning?

Cook the garlic over medium heat and remove the pan from heat if the garlic begins to brown too quickly. Stir often to prevent burning, which can make the garlic taste bitter.

Description

A quick and flavorful sautéed green beans recipe with garlic that makes a perfect side dish. Tender-crisp green beans are first blanched to preserve their vibrant color and then sautéed with fragrant garlic butter, seasoned simply with salt and black pepper to enhance their natural flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Green Beans

  • 24 oz fresh green beans, ends trimmed

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 3 Tbsp salted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Blanch the Green Beans: Add 24 oz of fresh trimmed green beans to a large frying pan and fill the pan with about 1 inch of water. Bring the water to a boil. Let the green beans cook until they are crisp-tender and still bright green, approximately 5 minutes. Then drain the water and transfer the green beans to a strainer to remove excess moisture.
  2. Melt the Garlic Butter: In the same frying pan, add 3 tablespoons of salted butter and 3 minced garlic cloves over medium heat. Cook until the butter is fully melted and the garlic becomes fragrant, taking care not to burn the garlic.
  3. Sauté the Beans: Return the drained green beans to the pan. Sprinkle ½ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper over the beans. Toss everything together to coat the green beans well with the garlic butter. Continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes, tossing and flipping the beans once or twice until some pieces develop a slight crispiness. Once done, scoop onto a serving plate and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Trim the ends of the green beans before cooking for best texture.
  • Do not overcook the green beans during blanching to maintain their bright color and crunch.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor; garlic powder will not deliver the same aroma.
  • For a different flavor, try adding a squeeze of lemon juice or some red pepper flakes after sautéing.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled or halved to suit your serving needs.
