Bang Bang Chicken Skewers with Spicy Thai Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe

  • Author: anna
  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

Bang Bang Chicken Skewers are a flavorful and easy-to-make appetizer featuring tender, seasoned chicken cubes grilled on skewers and coated with a creamy, spicy, and sweet bang bang sauce. Perfect for parties or weeknight dinners, these skewers are cooked quickly in an air fryer for a crispy, juicy finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Skewers

  • wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1 ¼ cups (290 g) mayonnaise
  • ⅔ cup Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Sriracha (or more to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Toss chicken with seasonings: In a large bowl, combine the cubed chicken breasts, olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Toss well to evenly coat all the chicken pieces with the seasoning mixture.
  2. Thread chicken onto skewers: Take soaked wooden skewers and thread 4-5 pieces of the seasoned chicken cubes onto each skewer, making sure they are spaced evenly.
  3. Make bang bang sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, and honey until well combined to create about 1 ¾ cups of bang bang sauce.
  4. Brush sauce over chicken: Divide the bang bang sauce mixture in half. Brush one half evenly over the chicken skewers. Reserve the other half of the sauce in a separate bowl to be served later.
  5. Preheat and arrange the air fryer: Place the chicken skewers in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Air fry the chicken: Cook the skewers at 400°F (204°C) for 11-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  7. Serve with reserved sauce: Once cooked, transfer the skewers to a serving plate and drizzle or brush them with the reserved bang bang sauce. Serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • Soaking wooden skewers helps prevent them from burning during cooking.
  • You can adjust the heat level of the sauce by adding more or less Sriracha.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, you can also grill or broil the skewers, but cooking times may vary.
  • Ensure chicken is fully cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
  • These skewers are great served with steamed rice, salad, or as party finger food.
